“The shiny red color of the soles has no function other than to identify to the public that they are mine. I selected the color because it is engaging, flirtatious, memorable and the color of passion.” -Christian Louboutin

Last week, my beautiful little island of Bahrain celebrated 41 years of independence. A few friends of mine were visiting for the weekend and we had a few hours to kill before they were off to the airport. After deliberating, I decided to take them to Riffa to see those gorgeous lights, and they loved it. It really was beautiful, I felt like I was the tourist. Not only did the streets look amazing, but the spirit around was fantastic. I don’t know what it is exactly, but there’s something about those lights that is so enchanting. There were big smiles all around, everyone was happy. People from different nationalities were walking around, taking pictures, and just having a good time. There even was an ice cream truck parked by, there was joy everywhere I tell you. I loved being there, made me feel so patriotic. Happy (belated) National Day Bahrain, may your magic live on forever!

This past weekend was an extended one as Bahrain celebrated its 41st National Day. Apart from this festive celebration (post to follow), my family had an additional celebration. My only nephew, Rashid, turned two this week. Of course being the only grandson from my dad’s side, he’s a little bit on the spoiled side. My sister planned a casual family birthday for him at my dad’s house, fluffy Dalal included. Rashid is obsessed with the cartoon “Cars”, so the theme was a given. He honestly felt like the king of the world with all the attention on him, and lots of gifts to unwrap. It was such a beautifully spent day with the whole family gathered around, I just love days like these. Happy birthday my love Rashoodi, may your journey in life be a fantastic one!
